My experiences with spontaneous trips have turned out to become some great memories so far this year. Just this past weekend, I decided to go on another adventure. This time I was alone, and didn't make my decision of where I was going until I got to the train station.

I decided on Braunschweig - about 2.5 hours away including an Umsteig - platform change. I heard it had a Castle.

That was about all it took. I rode the train, brought a book, visited the city, stayed about 2 hours, saw the sights, caught the train back for dinner with Inge and Andreas. It was a Saturday like none other that I have had in a long time. One of the first that I can actually say I had some "me-time", even if that meant a few hours alone on the train. It is amazing to think how rapid this year has been going by - stressful at times too, because moments like these really are few. There is always something going on, places to go, people to see.

[ Some incredible small, old town German architecture ]

[ Lined with new and artistic buildings as well ]
